BUALA Hospital in Isabel Province has recorded one confirmed dengue fever case for the first time.
The case was recorded towards the end of last month when the patient was undergoing treatment at Buala hospital.
Hospital Director Dr Helen Hopkins said that there was only one confirmed case so far despite the many suspect cases that were later proven to be negative.
“Isabel is the only province to have successfully eradicated malaria in the country, but with this first recorded dengue fever case, we really need to work hard,” Dr Hopkins said.
She urged the communities to immediately work together to make sure their environment is cleaned.
“Dengue is a vector borne disease and communities need to immediately clean their surroundings to control the spread of the virus.”
Since the dengue outbreak last month, health authorities have recorded 245 confirmed cases in Honiara and Guadalcanal with only one death.
