Women in the Northern region of Malaita province attended their first formal floral art training.
According to reports reaching Solomon Star over the weekend, a total of 38 women from a group named Self Employed Women Association (SEWA) from North Malaita participated in training.
SEWA is a women organisation of the Manaili tribe in Ward Eight of the region.
The training was conducted upon a request from the Manaili tribe of ILGU House of Chiefs to Women Development Division of Malaita Province.
Floral Art training is one of the initiatives under the Manalili Tribe Community Governance Programme 2017-2027 initiative to empower the SEWA members with floral art skills to generate income.
Floral art is a good business for women to generator income given the popularity of floral art and its high demand when it comes to decoration.
Income generated from the floral art skill training will help the SEWA women members save money in their community saving and lending group scheme.
Speaking during the official opening of the floral art training, the Malaita Women Development Division representative Clare Rikimani said the division id happy with the partnership with the Manaili tribe.
Mrs Rikimani said the division and the provincial government support the programme and congratulate the SEWA members for the successful partnership which saw them receive their first ever floral art training.
The two-day floral training was conducted by Ethel Fito’o, a local floral art specialist on the 2nd and 3rd of October.
