THE organising committee for Miss Guadalcanal Pageant program on Wednesday 20th September 2017 has successfully selected a candidate to represent Guadalcanal Province in the upcoming Miss Solomon Islands Pageant 2017.
The successful candidate is 21-year-old Gladys Veronica Vasuni. Miss Vasauni snatched the Miss Guadalcanal crown from two other finalists in the first ever provincial pageant for her powerful speech on the theme: If I had that one power for the betterment to change this nation.’
The Solomon Islands National University tourism student hails from Tangarare in West Guadalcanal.
She also works as a cruise ship tour guide for Travel Solomons.
In her winning speech, Miss Vasuni articulated her vision to address the issue of unemployment in our country by creating an avenue where all unemployed citizens will be given an equal opportunity to utilise their talents.
She said that unemployment is a current pressing issue in our country and that should she be ever given the power to change Solomon Islands for the better, she will ensure that all unemployed men and women are provided employment opportunities to enable them to live a care-free life.
Reacting to her victory as the first ever Miss Guadalcanal, Miss Vasuni said she is greatly honoured and privileged to represent her province and will do her utmost best to make the people of Guadalcanal and Solomon Islands as a whole proud.
The Guadalcanal pageant program committee welcomes Miss Vasuni and wishes her well as she represents Guadalcanal Province in the Miss Solomon Islands Pageant 2017.
The committee looks forward to working closely with her to secure a sponsor. –
