The controversial Fishing Village Market in East Honiara will soon be closed down for good.
This was highlighted by the Minister of Infrastructure Development (MID) and Deputy Prime Minister (DPM) Manasseh Maelanga in parliament during the committee of supply debate on the 2023 budget.
He revealed this in response to a question raised in parliament on what the government is doing to the market which had contributed to traffic jam within that area.
DPM told parliament that with the official opening of the Kukum market recently, the Fishing Village market will be closed down and all market vendors to shift to the Kukum market area.
For years, there have been concerns with the risks pose by the market to members of public when using the market.
Not only that but during the peak time, it also causes traffic jam which is frustrating to commuters heading back to their homes after work.
