Five schools in Honiara have been earmarked to undergo the pilot program of the Chess in Schools (CiS) program for this year.
This was confirmed by the Solomon Islands Chess Federation (SICF) secretary general, Michael Qwanafia yesterday.
The five schools are Chung Wah School, Woodford International, Perch primary school, King George secondary school, Tenaru secondary school and St Martin Training Centre.
These schools will participate in an organized championship next month to help selectors pick out potential candidate to represent the Solomon Islands in the upcoming World Youth championship in South Africa this year.
Qwanafia said so far Chung Wah and KG VI School have confirmed their participation while the others are in consultation with SICF and should confirm their position by the end of the month.
Meanwhile the championship proposed to be held next month will also include the open category.
Potential players from this competition will be selected to represent the country in the World Chess Olympiad also later in the year.
