DEAR EDITOR – Thank you for the space to raise my thought on the flood victims that are still in evacuation shelters.
I think it is now time these people leave wherever they occupy. Clearing out the FOPA village and Panatina campuses are a must.
If some are still there, I see no reason why they should not leave. The flood was over, it’s time to rebuild. Go back and start rebuilding.
It is not a good excuse to wait for the government to repatriate you home. Do not look and ask for what your government can do for you. Start your own life. The little help from donors and the government should be enough to get you back on your feet.
We Solomon islanders are very good and it has been a practice as well, of helping each other. Working together to help those in trouble.
I am sure relatives and people in your communities will help each other in this instance rebuild a home.
So I think it is time to free-up these shelters especially Panatina so that students can return to school freely.
Thank you.
Ellen Joyce
