SELWYN College is today sending home over 300 of its students who are down with flu as it awaits further decision on whether to continue classes or close the school.
In a statement today (Sunday 14th August) the school administration said the dramatic rise in flu-like-symptoms has affected both students and staff since last week and over the weekend.
It said the total number of students who are down with the flu is 314 as of this morning and the number is expected to increase.
Therefore, it said the school had decided this morning to send the 314 affected students to Honiara.
“The school staff council will be meeting tomorrow morning (Monday 15th August) to decide whether to close and allow students to leave and have their early one week break this week (Monday 15th August to 19th August).
“…confirmation of the decision will be made tomorrow morning,” the school administration said today.
The flu-like-systems is affecting many families in Honiara which has seen the rise in hospital admissions and visitations to clinics and health centres over the past few days.
