HIRED Fokker 70 aircraft from Brisbane-based Alliance Airlines based in Australia has serviced the Solomon Airlines operated Brisbane-Honiara-Tarawa international route.
The aircraft arrived in Honiara before going on to Tarawa a little bit late than schedule.
It will return to Honiara today and continues on to Brisbane.
National flag carrier Solomon Airlines was forced to hire the aircraft after Air Nauru which it has been engaging was busy with another charter.
The Airlines manager, Commercial Operation, Colin Sigimanu on Tuesday said the Fokker 70 aircraft will serve Honiara from Brisbane, then onto Kiribati, returning the same route today.
“This arrangement was made because Air Nauru, which we’ve been engaging, has a pre-booked engagement for the day,” he said.
Solomon Airlines has been using the Air Nauru aircraft since its Airbus A320 went into service overseas several weeks ago.
The Airbus is expected back at the end of July this year.
The Fokker 70 is an aircraft with smaller capacity compared to the Airbus. It can carry up to 70 passengers with minimum cargo capacity.
