Dear Editor – It is not uncommon for foreigners like Bruce White who spend a few days in Solomon Islands to assume they know more about the country and its people.
My letter, which appeared in star of 27/07/2017, was intended for Solomon islanders.
For Mr White, an outsider to respond to my comments, is bad judgement.
We have enough of foreigners who come here as advisors, consultants and experts to tell us how to run this country.
Most of their ‘’White’’ advice which is lineal in nature and euro-centric in its purpose, are irrelevant in Solomon Islands context.
Solomon islander’s maybe living in thatched huts, but this is no reason for them to remain, subservient to the whims of foreign commentators.
While Mr White is encouraged to enjoy surfing in Solomon Islands, he will do well to refrain from abusing the privilege of coming here without any hindrance.
