The Ministry of Forestry and Research (MFR) proposed research centre in Kolombangara Island near Ringi in the Western province will start off early next year.
The Ministry’s Permanent Secretary (PS) Barnabas Anga revealed this yesterday at the opening of the Forestry Inventory Backstopping –NFI Sampling Design workshop.
The research centre was first constructed in West Guadalcanal and was shifted down to Kolombangara late last year due to land issues.
The research centre would have permanent facilities like classroom, dormitories and offices for students to do research study.
Mr Anga said project is now in the design stage with construction expected to start early next year.
Mr Anga said the centre would be an asset for the Ministry to allow students and researchers to conduct their studies.
