Solomon Islands Athletics Federation (SIAF) has a new patron; he is former national athletics sprinter Francis Manioru.
Manioru was appointed to be Athletics Solomon’s Patron after Athletics Solomon’s previous Patron Sir George Lepping died last year.
Manioru represented the Solomon Islands in more than 10 international outings with some very impressive results.
Manioru is no stranger to local athletics, having been an athlete for quite some time and then continued to work with sports in the office of the National Olympic Committee of Solomon Islands (NOCSI).
He was delighted and honoured to be a patron of athletics in the country since it is athletics started him on his path to become one of the country’s renowned athletes.
“I will be happy to serve Athletics Solomon in whatever capacity I can,” he said.
NOCSI president and former Athletics Solomon president Martin Rara said, Mr Manioru s knows many things about athletics from his passion and talent on which he has built his career.
“His experience will very much help him on this post.
“He is a great ambassador for athletics and no doubt will be of great help for athletics in the country.
“We are proud to have him on board,” Rara said.
