A FORMER Malaita Provincial Secretary (PS) who attended a secret meeting organised by three Members of the Provincial Assembly (MPA) has come out and cleared the air regarding his presence at the meeting.
Harold Leka said he was invited to the meeting by the MPA for Ward 15 Edward Misite’e where he said he accepted the invitation to go and listen to deliberations shared in the meeting.
Mr. Leka maintained that even though he was part of the meeting which was held at Gwounaru’u on Sunday last week; he was not behind the move and the agenda where he said he was there because he was invited and offered free lift to the meeting venue.
“I want to make it clear to the Malaita public that I was the former PS that the media was referring to attending the secret meeting.”
“I want to make it clear that I was invited to the meeting by MPA for Ward 15 who also offered free transportation to the meeting venue.”
“I was there only to listen.”
“It is wrong to say I am one of those behind the move and the agenda.”
The former PS said the agenda of the meeting is no secret as it is to seek the opinion of the people with the aim of allowing China Harbour Engineering Firm to come and upgrade the Fiu Bridge.
He said what was obvious at the meeting that most participants did not agree with the agenda while a handful agreeing to the agenda.
The sentiment shared by the former PS stating most participants did not agree with the agenda has proven to be true as a proposed protest march which was supposed to be held on Friday this week in Auki in support of the agenda did not go according to plan.
Mr. Leka is one of the longest serving PS in Malaita Province who served from 2005-2012 under the leadership of three Premiers; Richard Namo, Reuben Moli, and Edwin Suibaea.
The meeting was organised by Ward 15 MPA, Ward 2 MPA, and Ward 3 MPA.
Information gathered by this paper stated that a senior MP within the national government met with the three MPAs after the meeting to hear the outcome of the meeting.
