FORMER minister for National Unity, Peace, and Reconciliation Hypolite Taremae has lost his Central Makira seat during Wednesday’s national general elections.
Mr Taremae was unseated after serving just one term in Parliament by new comer to politics Nestor Giro by only 33 votes.
Mr Giro polled 1047 votes, which was enough to disappoint the visible presence of Mr Taremae’s 1,014 supporters who voted for the out-going MP.
Veteran broadcaster Julian Maka’a came third out of the 13 candidates which included former Central Honiara MP Moon Pin Quan.
A total of 3,737 out of the 4,226 registered voters in Central Makira casted their ballots.
Meanwhile, the counting process for ballot boxes from West Makira started yesterday morning while counting for east Makira started around midday.
This was after all remaining ballot boxes from polling stations in the constituency arrived in Kira Kira.
Results from east and west Makira constituencies will be announced today.
