VOTERS of Maringe/Kokota Constituency in Isabel have given former University of the South Pacific (USP) lecturer Dr Culwick Togamana the political mandate to lead them in the next four years.
Dr Togamana taught at USP’s Laucala campus in Fiji for many years.
He returned home in 2010 to contest the national elections but was unsuccessful.
After he failed to make it, he decided to remain in the village for the last four years, preparing for his second attempt.
He polled 1,594 votes ahead of his runner up, outgoing MP Varian Lonamei, who received 1,062.
Social media commentators last night hailed the election of Dr Togamana as the kind of leader the nation needs.
His election victory was officially declared by Governor General Sir Frank Kabui last night.
