FOUR people are in critical condition following a fatal motor accident at the Tandai highway, west Honiara.
According to Police, the accident occurred in early hours of yesterday morning when a car carrying five people crashed onto a rain tree on the opposite side of the road, seriously injuring four people (two male and two female) with the fifth (believed to be a young boy) fleeing the scene after the accident.
In a statement, Police alleged that the four who are currently receiving treatment at the National Referral Hospital were under the influence of liquor prior to the accident which took place at around 6:10am.
Police continue to hunt for the fifth person involved who they said is a male juvenile and who was believed to not have been injured at all in the accident.
“Investigations are continuing and we will continue to look out for this fifth person and bring him in for questioning,” a spokesperson from the Traffic Police said yesterday.
Police meanwhile call on drivers, especially youths not to drink and drive as they may be vulnerable and prone to such unwanted traffic accidents.
Police are also calling on the public to contact these numbers: 22336 or 23666 if anyone has any information relating to the accident.
