Chairman of the national reconciliation committee and government peace advisor, Fr John Ngalihesi calls on the politicians to stop politicising the genuine efforts of this nation to bring back true lasting peace in Solomon Islands.
He commented amidst continuous attack by politicians on the Prime Minister (PM) Manasseh Sogavare over the recent hosting of the National Healing and Apology program at Rove.
He said politicians talk on their level that centred on their greed for power, title and the PM’s position, which has nothing to do with the struggle of this country to achieve true lasting peace.
“Peace does not come from petty politics of MPs, but it comes from the reconciliation of wounding parties that were involved in the past ethnic conflict,” he stressed.
Ngalihesi added that the peace event last week brought the people together to forgive and reconcile the past brutality of the ethnic crisis that continues to hindered peace, love and unity, which the country needs to pave way for socio-economic development.
He furthered stated that the program was a success, and is a new chapter in the history of Solomon Islands for our peace-building efforts.
Ngalihesi stressed that politicians need to change their attitude and support the good work that will reunite this nation and move the country forward.
He appealed to politicians to reconcile, and put aside their differences in order for them to see the bright future ahead for this nation.
“The reconciliation and healing event was a program that everyone needs to support, but not an issue to stir up political rambles, which is entertained by some politicians to disturb our peace-building efforts.
“The healing and forgiveness by wounding parties of the past ethnic tension is a way forward for Solomon Islands, as it was a true reconciliation comes from the hearts of our people and driven by the divine spirit of God to reunite this country.”
He pointed out that petty politics no longer has a place in the modern society of Solomon Islands, as people today only needs peace, love and unity to live happily as one nation, striving for the betterment of all.
