THE Isabel Frigates football team has written a new chapter in their football history at the recent Solomon Games staged in Honiara.
Frigates head coach Richard Aosine echoed this sentiment to Star Sports in an interview.
“To reach this stage in national football competition is a breakthrough achievement for Isabel football association.
“I think in history, this is the first time a team from Isabel has reached this far,’’ he said.
He said his boys has been working very hard for the tournament as such they deserved such achievement.
“In fact we have been working very hard on what we want to achieve in this game,’’ he said.
Frigates started off their campaign with a dull jerk in their opening battle with a 1 all draw with Honiara Warriors and later ended their second match with 1 all draw again with Central Islands.
Frigates eventually stretched their wings in their in their final pool match against the defending champions Western Turtles with a 2-1 victory that also qualified them for semi-final spot of the competition.
Since their flying mode was switched on they shot down Malaita Eagles with four answered bullets in the semi-final playoffs.
Their 4-0 to Eagles secured them the grand final spot of the Solomon Games football tourney.
However, Frigates could not compete their flying trek with a denial from Kakamoras who beat them in the grand final with three unanswered goals.
Despite the denial, it was a sweet victory for Frigates who has written a new chapter in their football history.
Meanwhile, Makira Ulawa know as Real Kakamora was the gold medal champions of the competition, Isabel Frigates as silver medal winner while Honiara Warriors settled for bronze medal.
