Ninety percent of funding secured
AROUND 90 percent of funding has been secured for facilities for the Pacific Games 2023.
This was revealed by the Chairman of the National Hosting Authority (NHA) for the Pacific Games 2023, Dr. Jimmie Rodgers.
“We have secured about 90 percent funding for the Pacific Games 2023 Sporting Facilities.
“This includes accommodation which the Australian Government will be upgrading.
“The NHA has secured St Josephs Tenaru Secondary School, King George Sixth School, and the Solomon Islands National University (SINU) as accommodations for teams during the Games,” he said.
The main sports stadium, tennis facility, swimming pool, football facility, running track, and others comprise almost 60 percent of all the resources that the Government needs and that has been funded.
The futsal court and SIFF Academy will represent probably another 25 percent so makes around 90 percent has been secured for funding.
Dr. Rodgers added that the Games village which is the accommodation probably represents another near five percent where the Peoples Republic of China is now considering.
The NHA and the Government are confident to secure the remaining 10 percent by the end of the year.
“By the end of this year, the NHA and Government should secure 100 percent of funding for all sports facilities.
“The Government’s commitment is 550 million and we are fairly sure that because it is a transformational unifying program the Government will priorities to achieve this,” he added.
The only facilities now that are left unfunded are for water sports such as sailing, Va’a, and part of triathlon which the NHA has already secured a site for.
