The 2016 Solomon Games will kick off its first sport competition this afternoon ahead of their official opening ceremony on Sunday.
Two football matches are set to kick off the most prestigious event for this year at the Lawson Tama Stadium.
Host City, Honiara will take on Isabel Frigate in the opening match at 2pm this afternoon to be followed by Western Turtles and Temotu Arrows at 4pm.
Solomon Games Secretariat (SGS) said football will kick off today followed by boxing on Saturday.
“The official opening is on Sunday 3pm at Lawson Tama and to be officiated by the Prime Minister Hon Manasseh Sogavare.
“The closing is on Saturday also at Lawson Tama and again at 3pm but to be officiated by the Governor General,’’ SGS said.
