MALAITA Province is calling on all unvaccinated people in the province to get vaccinated immediately.
Director Malaita Province Health Authority Dr Rex Maukera said currently only 26.5 per cent of Malaita Province population is vaccinated.
“This is very low compared to the expected 80 to 90 per cent coverage,” Dr Maukera said.
The director made the call after Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare announced that a person in Honiara is tested positive to COVID-19 after arriving in Honiara from Ontong Java on 10th January 2022.
Dr Maukera said the current health services in Malaita is already under stress therefore people should be responsible and work together with the health authority to prevent the spread of the deadly virus.
He said the vaccination site at the National Disaster Management Office (NDMO) in Auki is still open.
“Central Field at the Disaster Office is still open for public and we encourage people to go and get their jab as early as possible,” Dr Maukera said.
The latest case in Honiara yesterday has now increased the number of COVID-19 cases in Solomon Islands to 33.
