A young girl in her 20s lost her life after she was bitten by a poisonous snake while tending to her garden.
The incident happened early this week in an inland village in Baegu Asifola, Malaita province.
Both the deceased and her younger sister were out gardening when the incident occurred.
According to information reaching the Solomon Star in Auki the deceased died on the spot few minutes after the snake bit her.
It was revealed the deceased’s younger sister tried to help her elder sister by looking for traditional remedies in the nearby bushes to help cure the snakebite after the attack.
However, when she returned, it was too late as her elder sister was no longer breathing and lost her life during the short time she was away looking for a cure.
Snake attacks rarely happen in Baegu and this case was just the second snake attack incident recorded in the past two decades in Baegu.
The type of snake is referred to by Baegu locals as a Do’ale or Baekwa tolo.
The snake is very rare to find, but very dangerous as its very poisonous and can harm people within minutes with its venom.
