THE girls in Information Communication and Technology (ICT) Day celebrations will commence virtually, Thursday.
Through the celebrations today, Girls in ICT will introduce a lot of significant changes.
Information Technology Society Solomon Islands (ITSSI), President Alice Aote’e announced that three provinces will join the celebrations.
“Western, Malaita, and Makira will be joining the virtual event on Thursday 6th May (today),” Mrs. Alice Aote’e said.
According to a statement from ICT, a significant departure from previous years as the organising committee introduces practical hands-on sessions.
“The executive is deploying support personnel to each provincial hub to help coordinate the online sessions and also assist in the robotic workshops.
“Several schools in Honiara will be invited and Solomon Islands government ICTS office to join the practical and online sessions while another 7 will follow online from their own respective schools.”
Meanwhile, ITSSI President anticipated that if the event is successful it will be a wonderful opportunity to showcase the power of technology.
“We will see how technology transcends boundaries and elevates our collaborative efforts to newer heights,” Mrs. Aote’e said.
The Girls in ICT day is supported by DFAT, UNESCO, PICISOC and the government through the Ministry of Communication and Aviation.
This year’s event will play host to presenters from overseas with technical support being provided remotely from Honiara and abroad. It will be a significant achievement for the association.
It is understood the program was scheduled for April; however, the event was postponed due to the late arrival of robotic kits that will be used during the celebrations today.
Information Technology Solomon Islands and Women Information Technology Solomon Islands has been celebrating Girls in ICT day since 2018. It is an annual event which was initiated by ITU to encourage girls to take up science and technology as a career.
