Two Members of the Plastic-wise Gizo have showcased their products made from plastic waste to employees of Auki Town Council in a two-day Waste Management workshop held in Auki, this week.
Plastic-wise Gizo is a popular Association established to help decrease plastic wastes in Western province.
Mezie Biliki and Amarlyn Kaqubule travelled from Gizo to be part of the workshop.
During the workshop, they were given time to display some of products made from plastic wastes that normally produced at home.
The displayed products of plastic wastes have attracted the council workers, as they were convinced that this will be helpful in reducing plastic wastes in Auki.
Speaking to the Solomon Star Auki, Mrs Mezie Biliki explains that they can utilize plastic waste into resources to make hat, basket, purse/wallet, flowers, garland and home decorations.
She said Plastic Wise Gizo has trained women in most parts of Western province to utilize plastic wastes at their home.
“We share our knowledge and skills to women in communities on how to make bag, hats, purse/wallet, flower hungers and many other things from plastic waste.”
“We also encourage homes to manage their plastic waste in reducing the use of plastic bags,” Mrs Biliki said.
She said most members of Plastic Wise Gizo are now continuing to benefit from producing materials from plastic waste.
“Some of our members are benefitting from selling products made from plastic wastes in Gizo town,” Mrs Biliki said.
Mrs Biliki also encourages the Auki Town Council workers and Malaitans to make use of plastic waste sinto valuable items.
