Police in Gizo, Western Province have arrested a male person in his 30’s following the burning of the Gizo old hospital building on Friday afternoon.
Police alleged that the accused, who suffers health complications, started the fire in his room.
Police said occupants of the building were evacuated with some properties being removed in time.
“No one was injured except for the suspect who received minor injuries.
“Police fire truck service and officers were deployed but were unable to extinguish the blaze.”
Police and medical officers have cordoned the site and urged the general public not to go near the burning building ashes, as hazardous fumes and chemicals from burning items and materials would have medical health impacts on people.
