SUPPORTERS of unsuccessful candidates for the Gizo/Kolombangara Constituency are calling for a recount of ballot boxes, alleging proper procedures and processes were not followed.
This was only hours after newly elected MP for Gizo/Kolombangara, Jimson Fiau Tanangada was declared winner, polling more than 2000 votes and unseating former prime minister, Gordon Darcy Lilo with a total margin of over 200 ballots.
Speaking to this paper yesterday, a group of supporters from candidates apart from Mr Tanangada, claimed that the counting process and system was rigged.
“From internal information and inside sources, the counting was rigged.
“Counting of polling stations was not focused on the targeted number of candidates and voters.
“The counting was manipulated, arranged, fixed and prepared, thus the outcome of election result for this constituency was overwhelmingly surprising,” a spokesman for the supporters, who asked not to be named, said.
The supporters demanded that a recount be conducted or else will take up a petition against Mr Tanangada.
Mr Tanangada could not be reached for comments on the matter as he is believed to be still in his home village following the election results.
