Gizo police have rescued three adults after being stranded at sea between Choiseul, Gizo, and Vela La Vela on 30 January 2025.
This occurred after their outboard motor developed mechanical failure.
Assistant Commissioner (AC) National Capital and Crime Prevention (NCCP) Mr. Simpson Pogeava in a press conference today said, three adults (a couple and their nephew) left their village at South Choiseul at 6 am bound for Gizo.
“After two hours of travelling, the engine had a mechanical failure,” said ACP Pogeava.
“The three individuals called Gizo police after they encountered mechanical failure, and police attended to the incident and rescued them to Vela La Vela Island,” he said.
AC Pogeava appeals to sea travellers to make sure their engine is seaworthy, and to check weather updates before traveling.
“Ensure to always have extra fuel with you when travelling,” he warned.
