Gizo Hospital in Western Province has recorded increasing cases of malaria cases recently
Reports reaching this paper this week say that there has been an increasing case of malaria especially in Gizo communities where people frequently visited the hospital to test their blood but turns out positive for Malaria.
According to the Malaria Lab Department at the Gizo Hospital, Duty officers confirmed that the increase of Malaria cases started last year in October.
However, the Officer said the Malaria case keeps on increasing recently this year at the beginning of January and up to this date.
‘’We record an increasing number of Malaria cases surrounding Gizo island.
‘’This includes residence, communities in Gizo town and abroad,’’ the officer said.
Solomon Star yesterday randomly spoke to a number of public in Gizo and they confirmed seeing an increase of Malaria cases in Gizo town.
They said this is because due to the changes weather pattern and other contributing factors like not cleaning up high tall grasses, more mosquito breeding place has been left such as empty cans, tires and pools
‘’If people and communities cannot do these simple things by just cleaning up surrounding their homes, we can prevent malaria cases from increasing and avoid losing life caused by malaria disease,’’ one of the Gizo residents from Banana Valley said.
Meanwhile, the Gizo Malaria Laboratory Unit keeps receiving a number of Malaria cases within Gizo and a few from other neighboring islands.
