THE Democratic Coalition for Change government in its policy strategy and translation aims to strengthen and support the capacity and infrastructure development at the Solomon Islands National University.
This assistance has reached a milestone when SIG fully funded computer labs were officially opened at the National Institute early this week.
The computer labs are fully funded by the National Government through the Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development at the cost of more than $5 million.
The computers labs are part of the DCC Government’s commitments to its policy statement promising assistance to the SINU, particularly the students who will be the main beneficiaries of the IT facilities.
Speaking during his key note address during the opening ceremony, Minster for Education and Human Resources Dr Derek Sikua conveyed his appreciation of the efforts made by SINU in successfully coordinating completion of the project.
“I wish to convey my Ministry’s appreciation for the efforts of the Vice – Chancellor and his senior management team for coordinating the renovation work with the contractor and for installation of the computers and accessories to the labs,” he said.
Dr Sikua said, he was fully convinced that the new computer labs modern facilities will greatly enhance student’s mobility and access to ICT services.
He assured staff and students that with such genuine assistance from the Solomon Islands Government and our local telecommunication ICT provider, SINU should be able to achieve its ICT objectives and plans.
Dr. Sikua said, he was confident staff and students morale to pursue higher academic learning at the National University will be enhanced as a result of the improved ICT facilities under the new working environment.
