THE Parliamentary Opposition has called for the investigation, arrest and deportation of Skyline Investment Group director Jason Liu Tao.
This followed a Solomon Star front page report that Mr Tao has owed Heritage Park Hotel more than $87,000 hotel bills, while one of his associates Pan Yan Bing who has also already left the country, owed Our Telekom more than $10,000 in unpaid bill.
The statement said the confirmation from Heritage Park Hotel regarding the Asian investor’s outstanding hotel bills speaks a lot of the kind of character of a non-genuine investor.
“Is this the kind of investor the Prime Minister and his office are trying to defend?” the Opposition asked.
“Is this the kind of investor the Prime Minister and his Government wants to work closely with?
“It is clear enough that this alleged international Asian scammer has nothing to offer this country but just false promises that is likely to rip-off taxpayers of this country and yet the Prime Minister and his office wants to protect this investor for highly suspicious reasons,” it added.
The Opposition said that the actions of Mr Tao and his associates does not reflect well of a genuine investor that promises a lot for this country.
“These people must be investigated, arrested and deported or they will ruin this country,” the Opposition said.
The statement added that the Opposition Group is highly suspicious of the response by the Office of the Prime Minister & Cabinet (OPMC) last week that the Government would standby Skyline despite the scam claims.
“Such response is highly questionable when the OPMC is trying to protect this particular investor and for whose interests are such investor with shady backgrounds are being protected?”
The statement added it only confirmed the reason why OPMC never responded to why a particular photograph was published in the media last week of the Prime Minister hosting Mr Tao at his residence at Henderson in May this year.
Meanwhile, the Opposition Group has reiterated its call for the Prime Minister to immediately cease all arrangements with Skyline Investment Group Company.
“The Opposition Group still holds a very strong view that this whole deal is a scam and all arrangements and the MOU must be ceased forthwith.
“What else do you need to prove when this particular investor has already started off by incurring hefty unpaid hotel nd phone bills in this country?”
The Opposition also accused the army of political appointees within the OPMC for not doing their job in undertaking comprehensive research and background information on Skyline Investment to verify the credibility of the investor before advising and recommending it to Cabinet for endorsement.
“The political appointees that have not been doing their job and are directly involved in this sector must also be sacked,” the statement said.
