THE Parliamentary Opposition Group has urged the DCC Government to seriously prioritize the reviewing of the Political Parties Integrity Act (PPIA).
In a statement, the Parliamentary Opposition understands the review is currently in progress as the national consultation process is underway.
However, the Parliamentary Opposition Group says the recent political developments have proven that the PPIA needs reviewing to avoid financial and social implications to the Government and the people especially when the country needs stability to achieve tangible development results.
“The need to review the Political Parties Integrity Act (PPIA) is important given the recent political developments which have drawn so much confusion amongst leaders and our people,” it said.
The statement adds the PPIA was formulated purposely to address political instability; however, the events that unfolded in the past two weeks established that the Act still has no teeth to bite.
“MPs are still employing the old habit of jumping from one group to another in total disregard to party affiliation and coalition. In this regard, government must speed up the review of the Act. It is in the best interest of all Solomon Islanders that the Act must be seen to be working. The long term growth and prosperity of the country hinges very much on political stability,” it said.
