A government vehicle ended its ride into a stream at the Vara Creek bridge early on Saturday morning.
According to an eye witness from the community, the incident happened at 4:30am when the vehicle was travelling from the Tuvaruhu area towards China town.
The eye-witness said no one was injured in the accident.
“The vehicle was travelling from Tuvaruhu at about 4:30 this morning (Saturday),” he said.
“It then rolled its left tyres over the edge of the bridge and fell into the drain.
“Only two men were in the vehicle and none of them were injured. They just climb out of the vehicle and called the police for assistance,” the eye witness told the Sunday Star.
Meanwhile, a spokesman for Kukum Police Traffic confirmed that the vehicle belonged to the Electoral Commission’s office.
“We’ve attended the scene and got eye-witness statements. A case has been opened,” the spokesman said.
“Yes I can confirm that there is an accident that involves a vehicle belonging to the Electoral Commission’s Office.
“Our officers are aware of that incident and a Police investigation is now on at this stage.
“But what will happen is that, because the vehicle is owned by the government, we will have to deal with this investigation between our separate ministries.
“This means that the driver that is involved will still have to go to court and the Ministry he works for might let him face the consequences through some disciplinary measures,” the spokesman said.
Asked if the accident is alcohol related, the source said according to the police report the accident is not alcohol related.
The vehicle was later pulled out from the drain at mid-morning on Saturday.
