We all have to build Solomon Islands, its economy and protect its reputation as a country of progress, peace, stability and vision.
These are the words of the Governor General Sir Frank Kabui, when delivering his New Year’s speech last week.
He said that, we are all aware that there is high unemployment in our country.
“It does not mean that there is no work. There is always work but not enough to go around.
“We can increase the chances for more employment by encouraging more investment in our country,” the Governor General stated.
He also encouraged local Solomon Islanders to stick to their job, and regard it as a rare commodity.
“Having a job is therefore necessary for our livelihood. This means we will be working for others for our keep.
“We will be employed by employers of all descriptions. The employers are human beings like us and do have weaknesses like us too”.
He also highlighted in his speech that, there should also be a balance where employers too are expected to treat their workers fairly.
“Employers who are arrogant, unfriendly, exploitative or selfish are not the right kind of investors.
“Many of us however, are hard-working and are good workers. We would like to see more employment in the country”.
He added that, this is good for everyone in the country.
