THE government through the National Oversight Committee is managing the repatriation of people stranded in Honiara to avoid exporting more COVID-19 positive cases to provinces.
Secretary to the Prime Minister and Chairman of the National Oversight Committee (NOC), Dr Jimmie Rodgers said in many provinces, the positive COVID-19 cases are still increasing.
“The provinces are on the face of containment and mitigation to try to control the disease in the provinces.
“The government through the NOC is slowly repatriating small number of people to the provinces,” Dr Rodgers said.
He said these are people who have been stranded in Honiara when the first community transmission and travel restriction was enforced early this year.
“We have been sending people to provinces in smaller numbers and in manage the repatriation vessels,” he said.
“At the same time people from provinces come in to Honiara.
“The backload of passengers from the provinces and its process is needed to be refined to control the virus infectious.”
