Twenty (20) senior government officials from across the Solomon Islands Government recently attended the Master of Business Administration (MBA) short course in Australia to enhance their leadership and management skills.
This is the third cohort from Solomon Islands that Australia has supported this year. To date, officials from 15 national and provincial government agencies have participated in the course, delivered by the Australian Institute of Management in Brisbane.
Matsuko Pelomo from the Ministry of National Planning and Development Coordination said, the course provided insights into organisational leadership and planning.
“The course facilitator delivered real-world exercises on leadership, strategy and change that will be directly applied in my role as Chief Planning Officer.”
Simon Chottu from the Office of the Prime Minister and Cabinet said the course provided highly relevant management tools for understanding and solving problems, and to enhance team performance.
“The course taught creativity, agility and adaptability, which are the key to effective functioning and continuous improvement of public administration.”
Australian High Commissioner His Excellency Rod Hilton said there are a wealth of professional development opportunities being delivered under the Solomon Islands – Australia Partnership both in-country and in Australia.
“Leadership in the public service is crucial for delivering vital services to communities across the country,” Mr Hilton said.
“The course’s combination of leadership and business administration skills helps the public service tackle today’s challenges more effectively and drive positive change.”
The training is part of a range of activities to support leadership and professional development of current and emerging leaders across Solomon Islands. More courses like the Master of Business Administration (MBA) short course are planned for 2025.
