GCU: THE Solomon Islands Government through the Ministry of Public Service (MPS) is piloting its first-ever computerized Leave Management and Passage Arrangement process this week.
A statement from Government Communication Unit on Thursday said a selected group from a number of government ministries began the training programme at the Institute of Public Administration and Management (IPAM) in Honiara, Thursday.
The statement said the programme was initiated following the successful installation and familiarization of the recently installed software system called the Aurion last year.
The Aurion is a software application that allows public servants to access information about themselves using a self-service hub.
The first module that is being implemented this year is Leave Management and Passage Arrangements which are processed electronically through a computerized system.
The system gives instructions to public officers that intend to take their annual, sick or compassionated leaves by applying through the self-service system.
This is one of the latest developments in the public service which is currently transitioning from the manual system to the electronic system, as part of the government’s e-governance programme.
The Ministry of Public Service is taking a leading role in piloting the leave management system in collaboration with officials from the Information Communication Technology Support Unit (ICTSU).
The Aurion system has already been used in the Public Service payroll system and is geared towards other services including Leave Management.
Permanent Secretary of MPS, Nego Sisilo said this programme will soon contribute effectively to the management and delivery of public services.
“This programme is vital in the public service because it will help to condense the administration of the different types of leave passages in the public service,” he said.
The MPS will roll out the training programme to all government ministries in coming months.
