OPPOSITION MP for East Are’Are Hon Peter Kenilorea Jnr says the Opposition has always offered to work in bipartisan with the government.
Speaking during a press conference recently, Hon Kenilorea said he had requested for a bipartisan approach in Parliament for the past two years but fell on deaf ears.
Hon Kenilorea said even the Governor General was supportive of his call for a bipartisan approach.
“We have offered to assist the government on the floor of Parliament but the government did not consider our call,” he said.
The East Are’Are MP said the Government should not be pointing fingers at the Opposition because they never agreed to a collective approach in the last two years since the pandemic.
“I for one have been in contact with people and organisations around the world who are willing to help especially in vaccination. The Mercy Ship floating hospital offered to assist in our vaccination program given our archipelagic. I sent the relevant information’s to authorities but nothing was done,” he said.
Hon Kenilorea said it would be different if the government agreed to the call for a bipartisan approach because both the government and Opposition can work together in providing advice and support to the oversight committee.
Opposition Leader Hon Matthew Wale also echoed similar sentiments that the Opposition was keen to engage.
“They cannot blame us when they themselves have never responded to our call for a bipartisan approach,” he said.
