THE National Government has supported provinces to boost the tourism sector in the country.
A lot of tourism operators in the provinces have testified the support after they attended the Tourism in Focus organized by Tourism Solomons in Honiara recently.
Speaking to Solomon Star in an interview, Meria Paza, Western Province Chief Principle Officer highlighted that tourism officers across various provinces are strengthening their efforts to elevate the sector in 2024.
“We are committed to supporting local tourism operators despite budget constraints.
“We will continue assisting and backing their investments in ways that benefit them,” Ms. Paza said.
She emphasized the need for collaboration between the Western Province Tourism Division, stakeholders, and local operators to achieve sustainable growth.
“At the moment, securing bookings for local operators is a top priority, as it would provide a major boost to the tourism industry,” Ms Paza noted.
In Malaita, tourism officers have been working with local communities to develop homestay programs and cultural tourism experiences, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in traditional Solomon Islands life.
Similarly, in Guadalcanal, Gela and Isabel provinces, authorities are promoting adventure tourism, historical sites, and conservation projects to attract nature lovers and history enthusiasts.
The Ministry of Culture and Tourism has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting provincial tourism divisions through funding, capacity-building programs, and policy guidance.
A key priority is ensuring that tourism development aligns with environmental sustainability while delivering tangible benefits to local communities.
