Guadalcanal Provincial (GP) Assembly has amended the1985 Guadalcanal Provincial Business and Hawkers Licences Ordinance and Signs /Signage Ordinance in Honiara on Wednesday.
The Guadalcanal Provincial final 7th Assembly meeting convened on Monday in Honiara and will end tomorrow.
The Business and Hawkers Licences ordinance was passed on Tuesday while the Signs and Signage Ordinance was passed yesterday.
Fine of breaching the ordinance is up to $1000 which was amended by the assembly.
Acting Provincial Secretary(PS) of Guadalcanal Province, Charles Sisimia told the Solomon Star during the assembly meeting at the Anglican Church Conference room yesterday that the assembly passed the ordinance to ensure the province can start charging licences fee to businesses operating around the province.
“Province has a business licences fee ordinance from 1985 that we normally charge businesses in the province.”
“So the amendment covered certain new business licences which have been charged in the past,” Mr Sisimia said.
The acting Provincial Secretary urged the people and business operating in the province to comply with the new law.
“I think its high time people and businesses operating in the province to comply with this amendment.
“This is very important for the operational administration of the province therefore I call on business to comply with this new amendment,” Mr Sisimia said.
