Like many other Mothers Union (MU) from around the Anglican Church of Melanesia celebrating the Annunciation of our Lord to the Blessed Virgin Mary that falls on the 25th day of March, the Mothers Union from the Diocese of Guadalcanal province (GP) came together at Good Shepherd Church at Fox Wood area last Saturday to celebrate this festival day.
The feast of Annunciation is a commemoration of Angel Gabriel’s appearance to the Virgin Mary that she had been chosen to be the Mother of Our Lord, and the willingness of Mary to accepting God’s holy plan.
According to the Diocesan Mothers Union Vice President, Dorothy Marahare; this is a historical event to the office of the Diocesan MU because this is the first festival where MU get together since inauguration of the diocese and as well the official opening of the Diocesan MU program for this year 2014.
Eight (8) Parishes from within Marau Parish in the east and Sahalu Parish in the west of Guadalcanal came together at Good Shepherd, Fox Wood area to celebrate the event.
The program began with a Holy Eucharist Service lead by the Diocesan Bishop the Right Reverend Nathan Tome.
In his reflection on that day, Bishop Tome encouraged the mothers to allow themselves to the work of the Holy Spirit.
“Let us allow ourselves to the work of the Holy Spirit because our service to God is the most important thing in our lives,” Bishop Tome said.
He said, “Let us not put ourselves down, but let us be willing to accept what God wants us to do in his Ministry”.
The aim of the Diocesan Mothers Union is to link everybody together in prayer, worship and service to all families and other Mothers Union organization in other dioceses and provinces, Mrs. Marahare said in her speech.
As she urged everybody to support the diocesan MU in her day to day duties, Bishop Tome assured the MU office of the diocese that the dioceses will continue to give hand to the work of the Mothers for the betterment of our families, communities and the nation at large.
Provincial Mothers Union President, Mrs. Edith Koete who is the guest of honor to this festival, acknowledged the Diocesan MU for beginning to taking onboard some very important programs like the Positive Parenting that will soon role out in the diocese.
“Such initiatives shows positive start to the work of the Mothers in the Diocese”, Mrs. Edith said.
Six new MU members admitted on that day.
The festival was concluded with feasting and colorful entertainments staged by mostly Mothers.
