Guadalcanal Provincial Women and Girls three (3) days’ forum held on Tuesday 15th to Thursday 17th aimed at providing a platform for girls and women on issues affecting them in the country was successfully completed.
Speaking to this paper on Thursday 17th, National Women’s Forum Convener, Advocacy Partnership and Networking Officer Lisa Horiwapu said the three days workshop has brought women and girls from Guadalcanal communities to share ideas on issues affecting women and girls.
“The participants have given recommendations on issues affecting them covered during the three days workshop. With this issues and recommendations given, stakeholders can help them through the recommendations discussed during the forum,” Lisa Horiwapu said.
However, she said the main thing that comes out of the workshop is partnership creation amongst women on how they can collaborate and address issues that affect women and girls in Guadalcanal and the country as a whole.
Guadalcanal Council of Women President, Alice Hou, said she is happy with the forum saying that it is in-line with Guadalcanal Council of Women’s annual policy plan.
“The forum helps bring women from Guadalcanal communities to come together and share ideas. However, such forum was not possible due to the COVID-19 pandemic. When WRAM approaches us about the forum, we fully agreed to the idea because it fulfills one of our annual policy plans.
“Also I have learned some new ideas shared during the presentation that would help stakeholders to achieve some of the goals and objectives in the national and provincial policies,” Alice Hou said.
The forum is organized by Women’s Right Action Movement (WRAM), and its sister partners the Young Women Christian Association (YWCA), Young Women Parliamentary Group and West Are’Are Rokotanikeni Association (WARA).
