THE five-day Grereo Festival of Isabel Province has concluded on Sunday with a gospel show at the Town Ground area.
The half day event commenced after lunch after most the organisers and participants concluded their morning worship.
The afternoon gospel entertainment featured songs, choruses and dances.
Given the fine weather a huge crowd turned up to watch the event.
The theme for this year’s program is ‘Bridging our diversity through Unity, Culture and Behaviour.’
The program commenced mid last week and featured participating groups from most of the wards within Isabel.
Throughout last week various groups presented their culture dances and songs.
The event was described as a huge attraction providing a form of entertainment program for the public during this school holiday.
And to conclude the event, a day of religious performances was hosted yesterday.
According to one of the organisers, yesterday’s program was the last this for popular Grereo Festival.
Organisers are looking forward to organise another bigger one again next year.
The organisers anticipate to see all the Isabel communities working and living in Honiara to turn out in numbers and provide similar support next year.
In Isabel dialect Grereo means ‘Shield’ so during most of the performances male dancers must dance with a shield to reflect this tradition and culture.
A good number of stalls were erected to sell local arts and crafts as well as food to the public.
Police presence was also visible with the set up of a stall at the festival venue to provide security during the duration of the program.
And this has enabled to festival become a crime-free one allowing the public to enjoy their watching the various groups providing entertainment.
Organisers expressed thanks to all groups that have participated, supporters and sponsors of the event.
