Ministry of Culture and Tourism (MCT) will this week conduct an official ground-breaking ceremony for the construction of a new Malaita province tourism office in Auki.
The Ministry’s Permanent Secretary (PS) John Wasi told the Solomon Star on Monday that the ceremony will take place sometime this week.
Once the weather improves, a delegation will travel over to Auki for the official ceremony, he said.
“This is the second tourism office to be built. The first one was in Gizo, Western province in which the official ground breaking ceremony took place last month,” Mr Wasi said.
Mr Wasi also confirmed said the team would also meet with Malaita provincial government and Gwounaru landowners concerning the airport issue.
“This is to discuss with them ways to reopen the airport to allow for the resumption of airline services and to help the tourism industry,” Mr Wasi said.
