MEMBER of Parliament (MP) for VATUD constituency has announced an economic growth centre for the constituency will be established at Vanikoro Islands, Temotu.
Freda Tuki Soriacomua said this during a visit to the island fortnight ago.
The centre will be built at Peu on Vanikoro.
During her speech at Murivai primary school ground onVanikoro, she said, the centre would have an office constituency project, administration, industrial, commercial centres and homes for people working there.
Ms Soriacomua said, the land for the growth centre has been already been identified and demarcated with work on the land expected to kick off soon.
“The area would be our economic growth centre and township for our constituency where our officers will stay there to serve our people with their constituency needs.
“We don’t want people to come over to Honiara looking for the MP for projects and funds. Our aim of this centre is to stop people from traveling from their island to this area to seek helpand return back to their village as cut costing measure instead of coming to Honiara,” she said.
Mackson Ariki Tau, head teacher of Murivai school thanked the MP for the revelation about the growth centre.
“I think people of VATUD have just voted a leader who hasa heart for the people that can make changes and make development happen here.
“We have been facing difficulties in our islands and ways to communicate with MP and officers. And now since the office will be setup here, I would like to thank her and DCCG for the plans building the growth centre on vanikoro for people on this island,” he said.
