THE Guadalcanal provincial government has expressed his sincere gratitude to Commander and Captain Henry S. Kim and Captain Jeffrey H. Feinberg and the Charge d’affaires Mr. Russell Comeau for accepting the courtesy call made by the province.
Premier Francis Sade, during a meeting has welcomes the U.S Charge d’affaires Mr. Russell Comeau and the USNS Mercy team for the humanitarian assistance under the Pacific Partnership 2022.
According to GP media, a humanitarian assistance includes medical care and exchanges, engineering projects, discussions on humanitarian assistance and disaster relief, and community outreach events, including band concerts and sporting events
Mr Sade said, Guadalcanal Province is a happy recipient of the USNS Mercy humanitarian assistances especially the medical eye service carried out at the Good Samaritan Hospital, community outreaches at Nguvia and St. Joseph’s Tenaru, dentistry services at Mamara and St. Francis in Vaturangna.
Premier Sade said he also supports the reopening of the U.S Embassy and the Peace Corps agency in the Solomon Islands.
Further to that, the Guadalcanal Premier also supports the ongoing efforts of the U.S to address the issue of unexploded ordnance (UXO) and abandoned explosive ordnance (AXO) on Guadalcanal.
In response, Captain Kim said he hopes the humanitarian assistance will touch the lives of many Guadalcanal people in terms of true and lasting friendships.
Mr Russell Comeau also assures the Guadalcanal premier that the US will continue to address the issue of AXO and UXO and looks forward to reopening of the U.S Embassy and Peace Corps agency.
The meeting ends with Captain Kim presenting a Pacific Partnership gift to Premier Sade.
