Guadalcanal Taekwondo men’s team and Isabel female’s team won gold in the 2016 Taekwondo team event over the weekend.
The Guadalcanal men’s team battled their way through to the final after beating the Central men’s team in a tight contest in the semi finals.
The Guadalcanal Taekwondo men’s team went on to beat the Honiara men’s team in the final which saw them claimed the men’s team event trophy for the first time since taekwondo was introduced into the Solomon Games back in 2004.
In the female team event, Isabel Taekwondo won gold after beating Honiara in a tough but entertaining encounter to claim gold in the female’s team event.
This is the very first time in the Solomon Games Taekwondo history to have accommodated female team event.
Honiara again settle for runner-up trophies to both male and female team event after losing in the final to Guadalcanal in the men’s team event and Isabel in the female’s team event.
According to the athletes, spectators and supporters, the team event was great fun as they introduced the new team nonstop fighting for a period of five minutes for two rounds.
