“It’s is also a day of reflection, when we can stand and assess or visualize the challenges and developmental potentials where we have witnessed during the province’s 31-year journey.
“It brings feelings of pride and comfort as we look back and learn from the challenges and successes that we have endured throughout our journey since becoming an autonomous province.”
Guadalcanal Premier, Bartholomew Vavanga said this year’s celebrations was for the people with the people, thus it was marked and celebrated within the respective 21 wards of Guadalcanal.
“This government sees its foundation as a government of the people and to show this, it is only fitting this celebration is taken down to the people at rural or village level.
“This is so that we can share our successes and our challenges together,” he said.
He said it is the aim of his government to reach out to the rural communities wherever possible.
“We would like our presence to be seen and felt at the rural level.”
Premier Vavanga added that looking back as a province, “we have come through good times and tough times”.
“We have our times of laughter and tears, of toil and of harvest; above all we still remain one province and one people.”
