POLICE established enquiry into the ‘Guns Shipment Alert’ article that was published by this paper on Thursday last week is continuing, Police Commissioner Mostyn Mangau said.
Mr Mangau confirmed this during the Oversight Committee press conference at Mendana Hotel, Tuesday.
The press asked if the ‘gun shipment’ issue reported on Solomon Star last week was true and who took the guns into the country?
Mr. Mangau said there were no formal reports received. And they only established an enquiry into the article put out in the paper last week.
“But as the matter of security as it is been said, that there are consignment of arms that came in and we are investigating that matter,” Mr. Mangau said.
He reiterated there were no formal reports received by police.
“I encourage the journalist to come forward if you have the information, address it to the authority and for us to investigate.” Mangau urged.
He also urged anyone who has the information to come forward and support the police with the investigation.
Mr Mangau then reminded journalists that such information can cause fear to the public.
“If you have information’s on such matter to please it is best for you to come forward to the police and give as this information to assist us and lead us in our enquiries,” Mangau said.
