Solomon Islands High Commissioner to Papua New Guinea (PNG) has briefly met with the new European Union (EU) Ambassador to PNG last week in Port Moresby.
During the meeting, the two officials, His Excellency (H.E) William Soaki and H.E Jacques Fradin shared and discussed issues of common interest between the EU, SI and the region.
In a statement, His Excellency (H.E) William Soaki said he was honoured to meet with the EU envoy.
“Had the pleasure to meet H.E Jacques Fradin, the European Union (EU) Ambassador to Papua New Guinea (PNG).
“We shared thoughts on issues of common and mutual interest between those whom we represent.
Solomon Islands is covered by the EU Ambassador based in Suva.
H.E Soaki told the Solomon Star over the weekend that it was Ambassador Fradin’s first posting to the Pacific region.
Therefore, as the only regional envoy based in Port Moresby, he was able to provide an overview of the region’s issues to the new EU envoy.
“As the only Pacific Island High Commissioner in Port Moresby, I gave him a brief on the Pacific context to some of the global and regional issues.
“We exchange views on EU and SI interests in PNG,” he said.
Solomon Islands and the EU have a long-standing relationship based on common values of cooperation, economic and trade relations to foster their close connections.
