FOUR Bus stops within Honiara City will be closed indefinitely, a statement from the Honiara City Council (HCC) media said on Friday.
In a joint meeting with the Honiara City Council (HCC) Law Enforcement Division, RSIP Traffic Police and MID Road and Transport, they have recommended that this will be done for trial basis on how to try and ease the traffic congestion experienced.
The four bus stops are mission place bus stop, old Guadalcanal Province bus stop (G Province), Honiara Casino bus stop and the opposite Point Cruz bus stop.
City Mayor Eddie Siapu said this is to allow the HCC LED Officers, Police traffic and MID officers to monitor and assess how best traffic congestion can be addressed.
The Mayor said as the City is preparing towards the Pacific Games 2023, the focus is to have a better solution to ease traffic congestion.
A review will be carried out by the committee once all assessment is done.
The indefinite closer of the bus stops for trial basis will be effective as of Monday 7th June 2021.
Bus drivers and the public are asked to use the nearest bus stop as of next week.
