HONIARA City Council (HCC) Director Waste Management and Control Division George Bogese assured the city dwellers that their waste management capacity is improving and want cooperation from the Honiara residents.
Speaking exclusively to the Sunday Star, Friday, Bogese acknowledges that the improvement of the waste management in the city would not eventuate without the help of Jiangmen City in China.
Bogese said that with the help of the Ambassador of the Peoples’ Republic of China (PRC) to Honiara His Excellency Li Ming HCC manage to get 3 brand new compactor vehicles which boost the waste management activities in the capital.
“I want to acknowledge H.E Ming and his staff for their tremendous support in getting all the arrangement done between HCC and Jiangmen City,” he added.
Currently, Bogese said that HCC waste management division is equipped with seven compactors.
Prior to that HCC has been using only two very old and worn out compactor trucks as result it really affects their rubbish collection in the capital despite contractors were sought to help them.
Bogese further added that the there are 6 zones currently with the these new compactor trucks and the help of few contractors they are confident that they will provide the much needed service for the Honiara residents in terms of west management.
He calls on the city residents, communities and the public to cooperate with them and be responsible when it comes to wastes.
“We are aware of complains coming from the residents but please let us all work together to keep our communities and residential areas clean by managing our wastes,” he said.
He also said that very soon his division will provide a free toll line for Honiara residents to call if they have issues concerning their wastes.
Meanwhile Honiara City Lord Mayor Eddie Siapu also thanked Jiangman City and H.E Ming for their support towards HCC.
“I understand that PRC celebrated its 72nd National Day yesterday on that note I on behalf of my Executive extend my warm belated wishes to the your Government and the your people,” Siapu said.
